So it must be time for my monthly update, then!
Let's see. I survived the various year-end projects and activities, thankfully. I now have two middle-schoolers and two less friends living nearby. *sniff*
On the last day of school, I said goodbye to a very, very good friend and her family. They will be stationed in Germany for the next few years. She was someone who always was there for me and someone I could talk to about anything. We didn't hang together, but I think that was what was unique about our friendship. We each had our own circles of friends, but were always there for each other and tried to get together whenever possible to talk things over while sharing a meal. I'll miss her terribly, but thankfully we can stay in touch through the internet. We kept in communication with each other while they were in Japan for two years, so I am thankful that modern technology can provide such contact.
A few days ago, I said goodbye to another very good friend and her family. They are making their way to Rhode Island as I write this. They will return after a few years also, hopefully. She and I had a lot in common and could also talk about anything and everything. I'll miss talking to her and seeing her almost every day. She will visit once in a while though because she has family living here. We spent a few hours together the day before she left at the movies seeing Eclipse. We watched New Moon together, so I was glad to see Eclipse with her. It was hard to say goodbye after the movie.
Gosh, what a sad post. I'll try to end on a happy note.
We went to the midnight showing of Eclipse. That was a lot of fun, quite the party atmosphere. We only had to wait in line for about half an hour, because they started letting people into the theatre around 10pm. We enjoyed the movie, even though it went really fast. Seeing it a second time the following morning was helpful, but tiring. I'm already looking forward to the Breaking Dawn movies!

Another Month Gone By?
Okay, so I'm not able to regularly post here. Certainly not as often as I would like to. Let's try to get somewhat caught up then, shall we?
After the Olympics ended, it was time to hit the ground running to get the yearbook done with about a month to the deadline. The same thing happens year after year. Lots of people come to the first meeting at the beginning of the school year, saying they want to help. Little by little they drop off, and by January we're down to the core of about 5 or 6 people to put the whole book together. Earlier this week, I counted up how many pages I had done work on, whether it be completing the layout or doing some significant work on, and it was about 20 of the 72 pages.
This year was particularly maddening, as people who had signed up for certain grade levels were happy to take the pictures, but never bothered to upload them for usage on the pages. W.T.F.!!! I cannot express the anger and frustration at this lack of follow through on a commitment. I believe the concept is in the name of the group, a 'committtee'. Not only have they let down their fellow committee members, but in my opinion, the entire school: staff and students. Their own children, and 700+ others! I am amazed at their insensitive and selfish attitudes. The core staff is now working feverishly to meet the 5pm deadline on Monday. But, I digress.
At the beginning of this month Jaime and I celebrated our wedding anniversary. I was thrilled that he had got tickets for us to go see Cirque du Soleil, something that we've never seen and have been wanting to for years. He also made reservations for us to have dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse after the show. It rained and we had to dodge some puddles at the fairgrounds where Cirque was, but it was such a lovely evening out. The show was incredible, and dinner was wonderful. Most of all, we had a really nice night of being together, just the two of us. Thank you for a great anniversary date, Honey. Love you!

Hooked On The Olympics
I love watching the Olympics. I have ever since I can remember watching gymnast Olga Korbut in Munich. The coverage has left something to be desired, but for the most part I'm getting my fill. So much so that it's hard to tear myself away from the TV and go to bed at a decent hour. I'm sporting my very own Olympic rings. Under my eyes from all the lost sleep! Luckily last week the girls were off so I could sleep in after staying up until 1 or 2 in the morning. Now that the girls have gone back to school, I'm having a tough time going to sleep early. I'm only staying up until around 11pm, but that just isn't early enough because I need to get up around 5am for the morning school routine. Naps have become my friend again.
I've enjoyed watching most of the sports: skiing, snowboarding, figure skating, luge, skeleton, and bobsleigh. But the one event I'm really into this time around is the short track speed skating. Apolo Anton Ohno has been the one to watch for me, along with his teammate, the young Filipino-Pole J.R. Celski. Here are pictures of them:
This first one is from Apolo's photo shoot for the Gap (RED) campaign.
This is J.R. Celski and one of his amazing tattoo. The sun and stars are from the Filipino flag. The eagle is from the Polish flag.
Go USA!

The Darwins Are Out!
Yes, it's that magical time of year again when the Darwin Awards are bestowed, honoring the least evolved among us.
Here is the glorious winner:
1. When his 38 caliber revolver failed to fire at his intended victim during a hold-up in Long Beach , California would-be robber James Elliot did something that can only inspire wonder. He peered down the barrel and tried the trigger again. This time it worked.
And now, the honorable mentions:
2. The chef at a hotel in Switzerland lost a finger in a meat cutting machine and after a little shopping around, submitted a claim to his insurance company. The company expecting negligence sent out one of its men to have a look for himself. He tried the machine and he also lost a finger.. The chef's claim was approved.
3. A man who shoveled snow for an hour to clear a space for his car during a blizzard in Chicago returned with his vehicle to find a woman had taken the space. Understandably, he shot her.
4. After stopping for drinks at an illegal bar, a Zimbabwean bus driver found that the 20 mental patients he was supposed to be transporting from Harare to Bulawayo had escaped. Not wanting to admit his incompetence, the driver went to a nearby bus stop and offered everyone waiting there a free ride. He then delivered the passengers to the mental hospital, telling the staff that the patients were very excitable and prone to bizarre fantasies.. The deception wasn't discovered for 3 days.
5. An American teenager was in the hospital recovering from serious head wounds received from an oncoming train. When asked how he received the injuries, the lad told police that he was simply trying to see how close he could get his head to a moving train before he was hit.
6. A man walked into a Louisiana Circle-K, put a $20 bill on the counter, and asked for change. When the clerk opened the cash drawer, the man pulled a gun and asked for all the cash in the register, which the clerk promptly provided. The man took the cash from the clerk and fled, leaving the $20 bill on the counter. The total amount of cash he got from the drawer.... $15. [If someone points a gun at you and gives you money, is a crime committed?]
7. Seems an Arkansas guy wanted some beer pretty badly.. He decided that he'd just throw a cinder block through a liquor store window, grab some booze, and run. So he lifted the cinder block and heaved it over his head at the window.. The cinder block bounced back and hit the would-be thief on the head, knocking him unconscious. The liquor store window was made of Plexiglas. The whole event was caught on videotape.
8. As a female shopper exited a New York convenience store, a man grabbed her purse and ran. The clerk called 911 immediately, and the woman was able to give them a detailed description of the snatcher. Within minutes, the police apprehended the snatcher. They put him in the car and drove back to the store. The thief was then taken out of the car and told to stand there for a positive ID. To which he replied, "Yes, officer, that's her. That's the lady I stole the purse from."
9. The Ann Arbor News crime column reported that a man walked into a Burger King in Ypsilanti , Michigan at 5 A.M., flashed a gun, and demanded cash. The clerk turned him down because he said he couldn't open the cash register without a food order. When the man ordered onion rings, the clerk said they weren't available for breakfast... The man, frustrated, walked away. [*A 5-STAR STUPIDITY AWARD WINNER]
10.. When a man attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home parked on a Seattle street, he got much more than he bargained for.. Police arrived at the scene to find a very sick man curled up next to a motor home near spilled sewage. A police spokesman said that the man admitted to trying to steal gasoline, but he plugged his siphon hose into the motor home's sewage tank by mistake. The owner of the vehicle declined to press charges saying that it was the best laugh he'd ever had.
In the interest of bettering mankind, please share these with friends and family....unless of course one of these individuals by chance is a distant relative or long lost friend. In that case, be glad they are distant and hope they remain lost.
